Invisible braes have come a long way in the last 20 years. They first hit the market in the late 1990s, and they soon became a staple in the world of orthodontics. Nevertheless, there are still plenty of people who just aren’t sure if clear aligners are a good option. We’re here to set the record straight and answer the question: “Do invisible braces really work?”
Invisible Braces Address a Wide Range of Alignment Issues
Originally, invisible braces were only used to treat minor misalignment. After years of developments, clear braces can now be used to correct moderate and even some severe alignment issues. Much of the progress a person makes with orthodontics is not from the braces themselves, but rather the prep work that happens before braces. Braces can’t do much to help an overcrowded smile, but they can once certain teeth are removed. Invisible braces provide guidance after the prep work is over to create a straight, well-aligned smile.
Also note that Invisalign is not the only form of invisible braces on the market. Invisalign offers clear braces, but not all clear braces come from Invisalign. You can still achieve amazing results with other clear aligner programs, such as the orthodontics solutions available here at Clinton Dental Center.
How Do Invisible Braces Work?
Invisible braces gradually shift teeth into their ideal placement. This occurs through a series of custom clear trays that look like invisible retainers. The trays are designed to move the teeth over the course of several months. Patients wear their aligners for 22+ hours a day and switch to a new tray every two weeks. Treatment timeframes vary considerably, but most patients are able to complete their invisible braces treatment quicker than metal braces.
Clear Aligners Only Work If They’re Used Correctly
Invisible braces do work, but only if they are used correctly. They must be worn for 22 hours a day – only removed for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. If a person chooses to wear their aligners for less than that, they may need to spend longer with each set of trays. Or they may not see results at all, depending on the circumstances.
Simply put, you get what you put in when it comes to invisible braces. Wear them correctly and follow your orthodontist’s care recommendations, and you should see considerable results in a short timeframe.
Every Orthodontics Journey Is Unique
Remember that every smile is unique. You may have a friend that only had to wear clear braces for three months, or you may know someone who wasn’t a good candidate for clear aligners. Your smile, oral health, lifestyle, budget, and many other factors will determine if invisible braces work for you. That is what matters above all else.
